The 13th Hour
Paladin of Abadar
The Endrin family has a long history of military service to the city of Korvosa. Jathan’s
father is a high ranking officer in the Korvosan Guard, and his uncle Marcus is the
Commandant of the Sable Company. From early childhood Jathan trained and made
plans to follow his father’s example by joining in the Korvosan Guard.
Six months ago Jathan met the beautiful Malena Vaneti at the market in Eodred’s Walk.
Jathan was drawn to the grace and beauty of the Varisian dancer and only a short time
later they were betrothed. It took several months for Jathan to convince his family to
approve of the marriage. The main stumbling block was the revelation that the girl’s
family belonged to a powerful Sczarni clan. Nevertheless, Jathon was persistent and
permission was eventually granted. Just when wedding plans commenced, tragedy
struck. Malena was knifed in an alley when she and her cousin Alara were returning
home from a dress fitting. Malena bled out before Alara could summon aid. Jathon was
devastated by the loss and infuriated at the Korvosan Guard’s failure to catch the
perpetrator. He dropped his plans on joining the Korvosan Guard and immediately
dedicated himself as a holy warrior of Abadar.
He is not merely a paladin of Abadar, Jathan has become the Avenger (think Judge
Dread). He has a purpose, and will not accept surrender as an option. He will generally
let the party work in whatever parameters they want, including setting traps and taking
the enemy by surprise, as long as the evildoers are brought to justice and no innocents
are purposefully hurt. When Jathan talks with enemies, he doesn’t talk nice, he strikes
PURE FEAR into their hearts (high skill:Intimidate). When he gets them in his sights,
he doesn’t accept surrender for the terrible deeds they have done.
As the Avenger, Jathan tends to push the bounds of Lawful Good; he is the purest form
of Lawful, with a desire to bring back order to society. He will not compromise situations
to hurt innocents, but by the same token he takes a hard hand to enemies. Adventuring
parties can accept him into their plans because they wont have to plan behind him in
order to use poisons or traps or lying to get what they need from enemies.
